So I meant to be more consistent in 2011, but we know how that’s worked out so far. Let’s just say my road to Hell is well-paved and getting wider every day. That aside, I wanted to share my oh-so-exciting-yet-distracting secret project… the new magnetic chalkboard wall!
I’ve been toying with this one for awhile and, with a little push from the hubby, decided to go for it. Essentially I needed a space to storyboard, plot and get creative. I love my computer but it just hasn’t been visual/hands-on enough for me. Enter blank wall (read: canvas).
I took one wall in the extra room we turned into my office and covered it with 3-4 layers of primer with magnetic additive (which I believe is just flakes of iron) and then topcoated that with 2 coats of tintable chalkboard paint (moonstone grey). I finished the 2nd topcoat last night and am SO EXCITED, even if I have to wait 3 days for it to cure before I can actually start writing on it. I LOVE the finished product! I’m so happy I decided to go for the whole wall and not just part of it. It looks great, feels great, and I’m already getting use from the magnetic function. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! (Sorry dearest husband… I love you too… but… well… this is just a whole other kind of awesome!)
Here are my photos from start to finish. Enjoy!
P.S. The unfinished edges are on purpose. It’s my little way of sticking it to perfectionism! Woot for whimsy!
